They conduct data mining and retrieval, and apply statistical and mathematical analyses to identify trends, solve analytical problems, optimize performance, and gather intelligence. They visualize information using a range of tools (e.g., GIS, R), develop scripts and algorithms, create explanatory and predictive models, and conduct comparative analyses to address complex problems.Additional Position InfoADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Data Scientist in this position will be part of the NGA Support Team (NST). The NASIC NST provides GEOINT data, services, and capabilities support to the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) and United States Air Force partners in support of the creation of integrated, predictive intelligence for the air, space, and cyber domains. The Data Scientist in the NASIC NST develops and applies methods to identify, collect, process, and analyze large volumes of data to build and enhance GEOINT products, processes, and systems. They conduct data mining and retrieval, and apply statistical and mathematical analyses to identify trends, solve analytical problems, optimize performance, and gather intelligence. They visualize information using a range of tools (e.g., GIS, R), develop scripts and algorithms, create explanatory and predictive models, and conduct comparative analyses to address complex military and intelligence problems.As an NGA Data Scientist, it is desirable to have a clear understanding of the end to end intelligence process, particularly how to work with intelligence questions and break them down into essential elements of information that can be collected into a database. Demonstrated proficiency in applied programming and/or manipulation of data with a programing language such as Python, R, SQL or Java. (others languages will be considered).2. Demonstrated experience developing and deploying automated processes to identify, collect, process, and analyze large data sets.3. Demonstrated expertise with the use of data visualizations for exploratory comparative analysis by way of scripts, algorithms, and/or predictive models.4. Demonstrated experience cleaning, filtering, transforming data, and/or enriching data.EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Data Science, Geographic Information Science, Information Science, Informatics and Computing, Information Science, or degree that provided at least 6 semester hours in statistics, and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements should be given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, plus experience that should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as: (a) intermediate and/or advanced statistics, (b) linear, semi-linear, and/or non-linear models, (c) working with a range of data types and statistical methods, or (d) data visualization capabilities. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years.Highly Desired SkillsQUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired:1. Experience solving problems and reaching data-supported conclusion by using quantitative and qualitative analysis methods.2. Demonstrated ability to work a problem both top-down and bottom-up to identify patterns and relationships across a variety of data sets and communicate the technical data assessment to non-technical individuals.3. Experience applying fundamental imagery analysis skills, understanding the duration, frequency, and temporal patterns of imagery derived observables, or blended Geospatial and Imagery analyst skills, tradecraft, or applications.4. Understanding and ability to apply highly complex mathematical, statistical, geospatial modeling, or other data-driven problem-solving analyses to address business operations or intelligence questions.5. Demonstrated expertise with visualization techniques and software tools (i.e. Tableau, matplotlib, etc.).6.
