Job Description:
Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a
Materials Technology Engineer at our Research & Innovation Center
in Middletown, Ohio (greater Cincinnati metro-area). Material
testing, characterization, and modeling will be key components of
this role to meet demanding performance requirements for new steel
developments and applications.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Organize and lead standard and advanced material characterization
of newly developed Advanced High Strength Steel grades, through
laboratory and industrial scale experiments.
Calibrate material models of new steel grades using numerical,
laboratory, and commercial tools for input to stamping,
manufacturability and crash simulation.
Support metallurgical research, welding, stamping, and steel
processing groups.
Coordinate testing, evaluation and property data development
through various research laboratories.
Interact with application engineering group to determine customer
specific data requirements.
Champion capital equipment and method development for advancing
material testing capability.
Support qualification testing for new and existing steel
products.
Support productivity and quality improvement programs.
Champion fundamental research in material characterization and
modeling.
Curate data sets representative of new steels for use by internal
and external customers.
May require domestic travel to technical conferences.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering, Materials
Science, or related field.
Expertise in material characterization coupled with finite element
simulation.
Proficiency in operating digital image correlation devices and
calibrating material models.
Strong research interests and willingness to collaborate openly in
multi-functional teams.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the
ability to represent the organization at industry and academic
conferences and related venues.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience (including graduate studies) in computer-aided
design.
Experience (including graduate studies) in high-speed testing.
Experience (including graduate studies) in MATLAB or python
coding.
Related experience with Advanced High Strength Steel grades and
microstructures.
